Honeymoon trip to Langkawi & Kuala Lumpur – A glimpse of captivating Malaysia

It was a very special vacation for us. This time we went to visit Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was our honeymoon trip. We were planning for a foreign destination and finally selected these places among a list of other destinations.

It was summer, April end, thought the season will not be suitable for the vacation but haven’t faced any problem roaming around the beautiful places.  The entire plan was 4N/5D and planned by a travel company.

Day-1: We had a flight from Kolkata to Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi. When we reached Langkawi airport, a guy from our travel company was waiting for us to receive and drop at hotel. We checked-in at the hotel at around 3 PM. No trip planned for rest of the day. So, we roamed around the places nearby. Had snacks from a nearby café and found a very good Thai restaurant for dinner. Though the restaurant at hotel looked good we just wanted to try food outside. Next day, we had a whole day tour so we went back to our hotel.

Day-2: Second day, the plan was to have Langkawi island hopping tour from morning 8:30AM till 12PM, come back to hotel for lunch and after a quick break again start for half day Langkawi city tour in the afternoon. The tour guide told us to be ready before 8:30 AM for the island hopping tour. Buffet breakfast was complementary at the hotel. We were very excited to visit the beautiful places mentioned in our tour plan. We woke up early morning and got ready before 7:00 AM. Went downstairs and saw the variety of delicious food for buffet breakfast. I can’t say the arrangement were just for breakfast, it was brunch because you can even find many items which we normally take during lunch. As we were a bit early at the breakfast table, we enjoyed our food for more than an hour. After that, the cab came to pick us up for the island hopping. It was a shared couch tour so 2 other couples also joined us.

Langkawi is actually known as “Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah”. This is having around 104 islands in the Andaman Sea. It took 30 mins to reach a place where we saw hundreds of boats roaming around the sea. A boat was waiting for us for the entire island hopping tour. We boarded the boat and the first destination was Geo-forest park.

Dayang Bunting Marble-Geo-forest Park: It was really a beautiful ride through the blue water to this geo-forest park. The small islands and big rocks were beside the way we traveled. When we reached this place, we saw many tourists were taking photographs from the outside of the park. Flags of different color were flying beside the park gate. There were beautiful trees beside the narrow road. We took that road and went down through the stairs to the actual park area. This is kind of a large vessel floating on the sea water where you can spend time and take photographs of the surroundings. Lot of activities out there starting from swimming pool, pedal boating, speed boating etc. We spent more than an hour at this place and came back to our boat for our next destination, Eagle feeding area of Kilim River.

Eagle feeding area: Langkawi is famous for its reddish brown eagles and white bellied sea eagles of larger in size. There is an eagle feeding area near Kilim River which is part of the Kilim Geo-park and also the water area near the island Pulau Singa Besar. It is a very nice experience to see the spectacular sight where large number of eagles circle the sky and dive into the river to catch their prey. When we reached the calm water area surrounded by dense forests, our boatman stopped at that place, then started throwing pieces of chicken skin into the water. Suddenly, the eagles started swooping down to catch their food floating on the water and take off in split seconds. We waited around 15 mins for eagle feeding. Then started for Beras Basah Island.

Beras Basah Island: Beras Basah Island is the most beautiful place in Langkawi. Clean beach, surrounded by coconut and other trees and clear blue water along with a ferry-stand beside the beach. It was a sunny day and a bit hot but you will not feel the heat because the place is surrounded by a lot of trees. You can’t resist yourself from having fun on the clear blue water. We too had fun in the blue water then just sat down on the beach and enjoyed the marvelous scenic beauty.

It was almost 12 Noon and we had to go back to our hotel for lunch. Overall a very nice trip so far to the islands of Langkawi. We had our lunch at a nearby Thai restaurant and spend some time at the reception area.

The afternoon Langkawi city tour started around 1:30 PM. A separate cab has been provided exclusively for us. A fascinating tour in a soothing afternoon weather that took us through the urban and rural areas of Langkawi.

Underwater world: Our first stop was to visit the Underwater World, located at the southern end of Pantai Cenang it is Malaysia’s largest aquarium. It has more than 200 different species of marine and freshwater fish including rockhopper penguins, harbor seals, giant rays and sharks.

The Underwater world has three different sections: Tropical Rainforest, Temperate and Sub-Antarctic. Entire aquarium was well maintained. It was quite interesting to roam around all these three sections and see lots of species of birds, freshwater fish and penguins. The Sub-Antarctic was probably the most popular section – the ‘penguin-arium’ houses cute little rockhopper and black-footed penguins that attracts the tourists most. There was a giant walk-through underwater tunnel tank which houses an extensive number of fish including sharks, giant stingrays and green turtles.

Atma Alam Batik Art Village: Atma Alam Batik Art Village has a wide range of exclusively handmade and block printed batik art that includes dress materials, paintings and handicraft products. We bought few handicraft products from here and quickly started for the most popular destination, eagle square.

Eagle Square: Eagle Square is one of the best attractions in Langkawi. There is a large sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight. It is around 12 metre-tall statue and one of the most instantly recognizable monuments in Langkawi. The entire area is beautifully decorated through fountains, bridges and terraces. We went to this place by road but one can also avail ferry to reach this place and can see a beautiful view of Kuah Bay.

This was the last attraction for us in Langkawi tour. Sun was about to set and we started coming back to our hotel after an exciting whole day tour through the dream place we waited to visit. On the way back, we had a quick visit to the duty-free Kuah Town and asked our guide to drop us in a café nearby our hotel. We spent some time with hot coffee and snacks in the cafe checking all the photographs we took throughout the day. In the evening, came back to our hotel by walking beside a lake and exploring the island a bit more. This was the end of our Langkawi tour.

Day-3: Next day morning we had breakfast in the hotel and get ready to check out from hotel at 10:00 AM. As per the plan we were at the hotel lobby before 10:00AM and after check out, we started for airport for our second destination, Kuala Lumpur. When we reached airport, it started raining and we completed our formality to catch the flight. Unfortunately it was raining heavily that time and our flight got delayed for almost 2 hrs. Finally we boarded the flight and reached Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon. One guy was waiting to receive us at the airport. We were very tired and hungry when we get into the car moreover it was a bit away to reach our hotel. Took almost 1 Hr 20 Mins to reach the hotel.

After completing check in formalities, we asked the receptionist where to get lunch/snacks. Luckily there were lots of restaurants just behind the hotel and also the hotel cafeteria was still open. As soon as possible we went to a Pakistani restaurant nearby and had some food.

The hotel was in the heart of the city with a huge lobby area, full of the guests as they provide free wifi at lobby. We also joined with them to avail the facility for some time and had dinner at the hotel café for that day.

Day-4: Next day we had a packed full of city tour starting from 9:00 AM in the morning. As usual, we got ready in the morning and had buffet breakfast at hotel and waiting for our cab in the lobby area. The tour guide came just before 9 AM and we started our Kuala Lumpur city tour.

Petronas Twin Towers: Our first stop was at Petronas Twin Towers for a quick photo shoot. Many tourists were gathering in that place where you can get the clear view of the beautiful towers. These are the tallest twin towers in the world. The buildings are a landmark of Kuala Lumpur, along with nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower. We took some pics there and get into the cab again.

Malaysia (24)

King’s Palace: Second photo stop was at King’s Palace, also known as Istana Negara. The palace is not open to the public and the main entrance with the mounted royal guard at the gate is one of the main attractions for visitors to the Istana. But you can get a nice view of the actual palace and take photographs in front of the main gate.

National Monument: The National Monument is a sculpture that commemorates the freedom fighters of Malaysia. We have been provided 10 -15 mins to visit this place and take photos.

Malaysia (30)

After visiting the monument, we stopped at a Chinese temple and on the way back to we saw the Sultan Abdul Samad building and the cricket club. Our last stop was at chocolate kingdom where we bought chocolates for us and for family. The cab then dropped us at the hotel in the afternoon. This was end of the packaged tour but we had some time to freely roam around the city for rest of the day.

We explore the city by taking a walk from the hotel and took a cab to roam around in the evening. The city looks really awesome at night. You can’t always trust the cab drivers so better ask the hotel receptionist to call a cab.

Day-5: Last day we had a plan to check out at around 12 PM and start towards Kuala Lumpur airport for the flight back to Kolkata. The flight was in the evening so we planned for shopping in the morning. As per plan, we took a cab from the hotel and went to a nearby shopping mall, bought some stuff for the family and friends and came back to the hotel.

Finally packed our luggage, check out from hotel and went to the airport. This was the end of our most awaited tour to the Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur. We have realized that it would have been really great if we could spend some more time especially in Langkawi. But we had limited number of vacation days. If anyone is planning for honeymoon or any family tour, I would highly recommend visiting these places.
