This time it was a honeymoon destination, though for us it was our 4th Anniversary trip. The Indian Ocean Island nation – land of picturesque beaches, lagoons and reefs, the contrast of land and sea, cultures and taste; makes this island a dream destination – yes it was MAURITIUS.
Bird’s eye view of Mauritius
Dthe month of February, we decided to fly from Johannesburg to Mauritius which was a 4hrs journey. A cab sent to the airport by our Resort to receive us. The Resort was in a quaint sea side town popularly known as Flic-en-Flac. This town sits on the western part of the island and is one of the best destinations for scenic beaches. I still remember that first view of the white sand sea, pine trees and that lovely ambience around. It was so picture perfect!!!

The spectacular sea view…. Straight from our breakfast table
After reaching the resort in the evening, we directly went for a dinner party organised by the Resort. The dinner area was just beside the beach and the swimming pool – spectacular view, awesome food and lovely music – all that I needed to start my vacation.
The Resort had a different theme for food everyday….the very first dinner started with continental.
The continental buffet -was delicious
We planned our trip way before we landed to this Island of beaches. So next day we headed to the Capital city- Port Louis which is situated in the North-west coast of Mauritius. We visited the waterfront, Old Anchor and stone balls – a lively and happening place with awesome restaurants around. We did some shopping in the local flea market and captured few nice clicks.

Then we went to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, commonly known as the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. It is the national Botanical garden of Mauritius, it’s vast and populated with more than 650 varieties of plants.

It was the start of 2nd day – we planned to explore the south west side of the Island. We booked a car availed by our Hotel for the whole day scenic tour which included Chamarel Waterfall, 7-Colored Earth, La Rhumerie de Chamarel, Grand Bassin, Trou aux Cerfs and the ship model factory in Curepipe. And I must say it was so worth.
Volcanic crater of Trou aux Cerfs located at Curepipe,Mauritius
We started our journey to the dense landscape of Southwest Mauritius, taking a halt at breath taking sights such as 7-colored Earths at Chamarel which had a Chamarel village and the best part was 90 meter high Chamarel waterfall and nature’s beauty 7 coloured Earth which was caused when basaltic lava converted the clay mineral into vibrant shades of red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow.

Next we went to Black River Gorges national park which is a wild expanse of rolling hills and dense forest, amazing scenic views and a must for travellers who love hikingJ. After taking some lovely pictures we headed to sacred lake of Grand Basin, the worship temple for all Mauritian Hindus. It is also called as Ganga Talao which is a crater lake with a huge Lord Shiva Idol – it’s a place to find your inner peace. We took a stop at the volcanic crater of Trou Aux Cerfs where we got some lovely panoramic views of the whole island. We ended the tour with a stop at the ship model factory in Curepipe finding some amazing craft skills, I was happy to buy a mini ship model as a memento

We were almost at the end of our trip. The 3rd day started with a lovely breakfast at the Resort. We had pre booked day trip for Ile aux Cerf’s Island. We boarded the Boat from our Resort Sea side and we were taken deep inside the ocean. Got to see group of Dolphins dancing around – it was an amazing experience.
