“BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Mandir” Joka is one of the biggest temples in Kolkata as well as West Bengal. “Swaminarayan” temples are present across different locations in India, the “Akshardham Temple”, New Delhi being the largest of all. Located at Bhasa, Joka right on Kolkata – Diamond Harbor Road, the grand temple is built on a very big sprawling campus with enough free parking space, very big canteen (veg) and a souvenir shop from where you may purchase ayurvedic products as well. There is no entry fee or any push for donation or whatsoever. The ambience is truly serene and sublime. The temple structure is a marvel of modern architecture; the pillars, the roof etc. are decorated with extremely delicate sand stone and marble sculptures which will leave you spellbound.
How to reach:
The place is well connected by road from Kolkata. The most convenient way is to visit by a car; it is barely 10 KMs from Behala, 15 KMs from Tollygunge/Alipore, 20 KMs from Park Circus/ Garia/ Dharmatala and 40 KMs from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. You can catch any bus to Joka/Diamond Harbor from anywhere in Kolkata and get down right in front of the temple. Alternatively you may avail metro to reach Tollygunge/Garia and from there avail any Joka/Diamond Harbor bound bus/auto.
Things to remember:
The temple is open to visitors from 7:30 am till 12:00 noon and then again from 3:30 pm – 8:00 pm. The “Evening Aarti” is at 6:30 pm. The visitor’s information on temple website is not correct.

Diamond harbor riverside, Fort Raichak, Falta, Pujali , Noorpur are all within 30 KMs or max 1 hr drive from this place. You may choose to visit this place as part of your trip to any of the aforesaid places.
